Dr. Khosla’s story begins not with a singular career choice, but with a profound curiosity that took root in early childhood. “I was born in a middle-class family in New Delhi, and as a three-year-old, I told my mother I want to be somebody who nobody could even dream of becoming” she recalls, a sentiment that foreshadowed her extraordinary path. Her mind, naturally drawn to the cosmos and the fundamental questions of existence, was marked by a wisdom beyond her years.
This innate fascination with science and philosophy became the bedrock of her intellectual journey. “I am an academic, attorney, author, philosopher, thinker, feminist, and scientist” she states, defining her multi-faceted identity. “As a child, even as young as 3, I wanted to be a scientist. Now I am a combination of all.”
Her educational trajectory is a testament to this integrated approach. After an early aspiration to become a doctor, she chose to study humanities, earning her Bachelor’s in Political Science from Lady Shriram College, followed by a Master’s and M.Phil. from the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU). It was at JNU that her interests in political theory, feminism, and the politics of marginalized communities crystallized, culminating in a Ph.D. on the intricate reconciliation of multiculturalism and gender equality. This foundational work was later expanded into her book, Personal Law in India: Reconciling Cultural Diversity with Gender Equality.
Navigating Adversity with Resilience and Spirituality
Dr. Khosla’s journey has been anything but a linear path to success. A formidable challenge emerged during her academic career, where she faced significant opposition from senior academics. Asked to unceremoniously exit academia, she found herself facing a severe financial crunch and a lack of professional support in India.
“Neither did I lick their toes for plush university Jobs” she states with characteristic honesty. “The political climate too didn’t like academics like me.” Yet, rather than succumbing to this professional exile, she found her strength in spiritualism and an unshakeable belief in her mission.
This period became one of immense productivity. “I wrote more than 10 books in a matter of 8 years” she shares. International academic circles recognized her genius, providing support through publishing and translating her work into major European languages. Her prolific output, covering topics from feminism and Hinduism to governance on Mars and pharmaceutical mafia, solidified her position as a global intellectual. She also pursued an LLB, adding legal scholarship to her expanding repertoire, driven by a mission to make the legal system more accessible.
Bridging Academia, Diplomacy, and Strategy
Beyond her academic and legal pursuits, Dr. Khosla’s professional journey demonstrates a remarkable ability to translate theory into practice. Her work as a Research Associate at the Centre for Social Research and JNU connected her to India’s complex socio-political realities. She then expanded her scope into peacebuilding, conflict resolution, and women’s security through her work with WISCOMP.
A significant milestone was her engagement with international diplomacy as a Senior Advisor to the Japanese Embassy, which provided invaluable insights into India-Japan relations and the importance of cross-cultural dialogue. “I believe the future lies in becoming a long-term strategic partner” Dr. Khosla explains. She anticipates a shift from reactive advice to strategic foresight, where institutions must anticipate geopolitical shifts, technological disruption, and climate risks before they become crises. This will require an increasing reliance on artificial intelligence and data analytics for rapid analysis, but she cautions that this cannot replace human judgment.
“The ability to understand context, culture, human behaviour, ethics, and unintended consequences will become even more important” she emphasizes. Her vision for her own organization is to be at the forefront of this evolution, helping clients anticipate emerging trends and develop evidence-based, realistic strategies.
